Reminiscent of a giant snowball, this elegant spherical project was designed by architect Mariano Martitegui to symbolize the importance snow conservation once held in this region.
The Snow Well’s laminated glass surface, spanning more than seven meters in diameter, catches and reflects light by day like snow crystals glistening in the sun. By night, soft glowing lights illuminate the structure from within.
Dealing with such a complex curved surface required expert cooperation between the suppliers and the architect. Both the iron support structure and the laminated glass had to be precisely positioned to achieve the smooth and uniform aspect of a perfect snowball.
The architect chose to use Vanceva™ Polar White interlayers to represent pure white snow. Martitegui believes this choice of color “contributes to the character and personality of the work.” The subtle but symbolic color also helps to integrate the radically spherical Snow Well into its traditional urban surroundings.
The Vanceva colors interlayer system enhances the style of laminated safety glass like never before—combining color and white interlayers to produce more than 69,000 transparent, translucent, or solid colored glass combinations - creating just the right look and ambience. In fact, no other PVB interlayer system offers the ability to achieve the range of colors and varied translucency in glass that Vanceva does.
