Countless birds die each year from collisions into windows and buildings with glass facades. An increasing number of cities are enacting regulations to address this problem. To address the global challenge of birds colliding with glass in buildings, we have developed Saflex FlySafe 3D PVB interlayers, an effective solution for bird-protection laminated glass that gives architects and glass laminators the freedom to create visually stunning buildings while still protecting birds.

These interlayers for bird-protection glass provide an effective bird-friendly glazing that is recognized in the industry and by ornithologists as best in class with minimal obscuring of views. Saflex FlySafe 3D offers more effective options for building facades with two different sequin sizes, 6 mm (0.24 in.) and 9 mm (0.35 in.) in diameter, with two color options of silver matte and shiny.

The 3D sequins in the FlySafe 3D PVB interlayers offer an effective method of avoiding avian in-flight collisions and allow for the continued use of glass as a design element.

*Flight tunnel testing at Collision Laboratories shows single unit laminates with FlySafe 3D 9-mm diameter matte and shiny sequins are highly effective with approaches at 9% while 6-mm sequins show an effectiveness at 13%.

Bird-protection glazing made with FlySafe 3D PVB interlayers is compatible with selective coatings as well as with Saflex Acoustic, Saflex Structural, and Saflex Storm interlayers, enabling architects and glass laminators to mitigate bird strikes without compromising on safety, security, structural integrity, aesthetics, UV screening, or acoustic control.

Unlike bird-protection glass that uses screen printing, etching, or UV coating solutions, FlySafe 3D PVB interlayers use discreet and optimally placed sequins to avert birds without compromising views from both exterior and interior.

Saflex FlySafe 3D offers two different sequin sizes, 6 mm and 9 mm in diameter, with less than 1% of the glass area covered.

Because it’s an interlayer, your bird-protection glass will last. The sequins are protected from the elements and cleaning tools and fluids, requiring only normal laminated glass cleaning and maintenance.

The interlayered sequins offer an effective bird protection with coverage < 0.5% for the 6 mm sequin and < 1% for the 9 mm sequin, causing minimal disruption to interior views.
