Few parking garages are noted for their artistic design, but Australian artist Rick Vermey has elevated parking a car to an artistic experience with his creation of Spectrum in a Perth, Australia, car park. The work is a stunning visual art installation on the lower-level parking garage of The Wexford Apartments, a boutique development by QUBE Properties in the suburb of Subiaco. Vermey combined 3.1-meter-high laminated panels of Vanceva color interlayers and Cooling Brothers ImagInk digital ceramic fritting printed glass with perforated sheet metal panels to create a multifaceted effect.
The sawtooth positioning of the laminated glass panels radiates the full spectrum of vibrant colors and stylized white graphics when the installation is approached from the west end of the street. From the east end, the colorfully painted strips of perforated metal sheeting are more prominent.
Cleverly planned lighting transforms the art at night. In daylight, the parking interior is illuminated by hues of colored sunlight. The installation is backlit with powerful LED lights, so as night falls, color and dynamic shadows are projected across the streetscape to create a multicolored light show.
Not only does this lenticular display add beauty to an urban setting, it also provides ventilation to the apartment’s garage. Spectrum is the superb collaboration of a talented artist and open-minded developer to bring beauty and visual interest to the neighborhood. The result is a visual feast, utilizing the Vanceva color system and ImagInk digital ceramic fritting to raise the bar for future public art installations within commercial developments.
The Vanceva colors interlayer system enhances the style of laminated safety glass like never before—combining color and white interlayers to produce more than 69,000 transparent, translucent, or solid colored glass combinations - creating just the right look and ambience. In fact, no other PVB interlayer system offers the ability to achieve the range of colors and varied translucency in glass that Vanceva does.
