Daresbury Sci-Tech is National Science and Innovation Campus internationally-recognised for world-class science, innovation and enterprise. The linear park at Daresbury Sci Tech is one of five sculptural parks that are part of a long term development programme of the site.
Romag manufactured more than 25 sections of glass for the park using a toughened and laminated architectural glass panels cut and intricately shaped and polished to high tolerances using our water-jet cutting technology. The glass was expertly laminated using vibrant vanceva interlayers combined with intricate and completely unique printed interlayers with striking designs that represent the scientific metaphor of enlightenment.
The design was based around the theme of light, and consists of five impressive sculptures individually colored red, yellow, green, blue and violet and appearing on the path in the order they appear in the magnetic spectrum.
Red: A faceted circle constructed of sandstone and the first on the path. The deep red glass glows brightly in the light of the sun. The glass was manufactured by lamination and intricately cut on our 360 degree water jet cutter which is able to cut small and intricate shapes.
Yellow: This sculpture is the next on the path. The vibrant, tall glass structures spring from the sandstone seating area. Laminated with yellow Vanceva and a printed interlayer, the abstract pattern touches on the theme of life.
Green: This seated area is constructed from sandstone and stacked laminated, shaped and polished glass. The design is of molecular imaging taken from Daresbury's archives. The depth of the glass, the intense colour of the green and the layering of patterns in the lamination make an inspiring and thought provoking space.
Blue: Five circular glass discs, laminated, shaped and polished are placed at height and cascade blue light on the walkway beneath. The intricate pattern is a graphical representation of our universe and its forms.
Violet: The Violet is the exit on the path, or the entrance; depending on the direction you are travelling. The intricate interlayer depicts the Higgs Boson particle ATLAS experiments at CERN's Large Hadron Collider. Laminated with a vibrant hue of violet Vanceva and cut, shaped and polished.

The Vanceva colors interlayer system enhances the style of laminated safety glass like never before—combining color and white interlayers to produce more than 69,000 transparent, translucent, or solid colored glass combinations - creating just the right look and ambience. In fact, no other PVB interlayer system offers the ability to achieve the range of colors and varied translucency in glass that Vanceva does.
