Color has been shown to have healing benefits, and this dental office in Arlington, Virginia sought to use colored architectural glass not only as a therapeutic device but also as a positive distraction for patients undergoing periodontics and implant surgery. Architect Antonio Sofan worked with CARVART to select CARVART Color architectural glass in primary colors—red, yellow and blue—as well as vivid orange and green to give each operating unit its own personality. Patients are greeted with full-height dividing glass walls that communicate vitality and contentment. Etched into each glass wall is a description of its color and the benefits of that hue. Messages such as “Green is a calming and refreshing color” foster well-being.
The glass walls also display the room number to direct patients and staff to the correct operating unit. The five operating units are laid out along the perimeter to benefit from the urban views while allowing the natural light to filter through the CARVART Color laminated glass. Materials inside each room are skillfully matched to the glass color to create a unified palette. It’s also an unexpected juxtaposition with the muffled whites and grays of the office’s main corridor. In addition to projecting a sleek modern aesthetic, the glass conveys the impression of a successful practice where innovations in the field of implantology and digital dentistry are being implemented.
The translucent walls also open up communication lines within the interiors, fostering a collaborative culture for staff. Overall, the CARVART Color reflective glass surfaces in dazzling colors become the focal point of the project, giving it an iconic look that has been covered by various architectural and design media.
The Vanceva colors interlayer system enhances the style of laminated safety glass like never before—combining color and white interlayers to produce more than 69,000 transparent, translucent, or solid colored glass combinations - creating just the right look and ambience. In fact, no other PVB interlayer system offers the ability to achieve the range of colors and varied translucency in glass that Vanceva does.
