Driving safer ADAS: joint verification to eliminate transmitted double image from windshield–camera interactions

Eastman's Saflex and Sunny SmartLead Technologies team

KINGSPORT, Tennessee, December 1, 2025 — Eastman and Sunny SmartLead Technologies Co. Ltd. have announced a strategic collaboration aimed at tackling a critical issue in the intelligent driving industry—the transmitted double image deviation in Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) cameras.

On November 18, representatives from Eastman’s Advanced Interlayers marketing team visited Sunny SmartLead, culminating in a joint agreement to undertake a focused verification project addressing the double image problem commonly observed in automotive camera systems. This issue emerges from complex optical interactions caused by automotive windshield design and increased optical complexity, which can degrade camera performance, reduce the accuracy of ADAS features, and elevate safety risks.

“Transmitted double image presents a significant challenge for automotive safety systems,” said Romain Delorme, global segment manager for HUD at Eastman. “While optimizing windshield glass and camera mounting techniques can partly mitigate these effects, these measures alone are not sufficient. Our collaboration with Sunny SmartLead combines our expertise to develop more comprehensive industry solutions.”

Sunny SmartLead brings extensive experience in automotive camera module development, specializing in optical design and precision manufacturing. Eastman is one of the leaders in automotive functional interlayers, with a robust history of delivering innovative solutions to improve vehicle safety and performance.

This partnership leverages the combined strengths of both companies to advance verification efforts across multiple dimensions, including:

  • Structural optimization of windshield and camera interface
  • Advanced optical simulation techniques
  • Rigorous testing methodologies

Looking ahead, the two organizations will establish a regular communication mechanism to accelerate the translation of research insights into practical applications. This joint initiative promises to deliver more reliable optical solutions to automakers, ultimately enhancing the safety and effectiveness of intelligent driving technologies.

“We are excited to collaborate with Eastman to address this pressing industry pain point,” said Mr. Any Jinag, marketing leader at Sunny SmartLead. “Together, we aim to contribute meaningfully to the evolution of safer, smarter vehicles.”
