Cradle to Cradle Certified® Certification

Advanced Materials Interlayers has chosen the Cradle to Cradle (C2C) Material Health Certified® certification to certify its Saflex and Vanceva solutions, a certification highly recognized and sought by specifiers in the architectural market as a guarantee of sustainability of selected materials.

Cradle to Cradle Certified® is a voluntary product certification that verifies that products are safe, circular and responsibly made. Products are evaluated against five detailed criteria : material health, material reutilization, renewable energy and carbon management, water stewardship, and social fairness.

Cradle to Cradle Certified® Material health certification is one of the five criteria from the Cradle to Cradle Certified® product standard. The Material Health certification reviews chemicals contained in products which must meet stringent standards pertaining to health and environmental protection.

Verified by an independent third party, the Cradle to Cradle Certified® Material Health certification guides manufacturers through a continual improvement process.

Certification levels are achieved with this certification– bronze, Silver, Gold or Platinum – and the product’s final score is determined by the lowest achievement level across chemical reviewed.

Eastman Advanced Interlayers journey to the C2C Material Health certified® certification

Eastman has been the first global interlayer supplier to issue a Material Health certified® certification in 2020 for two of its product range: Saflex Clear and Saflex Acoustic.

Committed to continue improving environmental performance of its products and to help support its customers in their sustainability journey, we have been certifying most of our advanced PVB interlayers Saflex and Vanceva portfolio under the C2C Material Health Certified® certification

Eastman obtained the C2C MH certified® Silver Level certification version 3.1, covering Saflex Clear, Saflex Crystal Clear, Saflex Acoustic, Saflex Solar, Saflex Structural, and all Vanceva Color PVB interlayers in January 2023.

Not only this certification enables Eastman to continuously improve sustainable nature of its product portfolio and proactively prepares for upcoming regulatory changes, it enables our customers and specifiers in the architectural market to ensure the product selected have been verified according to most stringent standards.

Cradle to Cradle certificate

The Cradle-to-Cradle certification is recognized by the Building and Construction market. It enables architects and engineers working on building projects to streamline their product selection and reduce design research time by ensuring to select products that have verified and recognized environmental claims.

In addition, C2C certified® Material Health is recognized by different green building schemes, such as LEED, WELL, or GreenStar and credits can be earned by using products that have C2C MH certification. Example:

  • LEED BD+C v4.1 reward project teams for selecting products in which the chemical ingredients in the product are inventoried using an accepted methodology and for selecting products verified to minimize the use and generation of harmful substance. Selecting products having a C2C certified® Material Health certification version 3.1 at Bronze level or higher enables earning points within the Material ingredients credit Option 1 or Option 2
  • WELL v2 certification also recognizes C2C Certified® Material Health certification version 3.1 at Bronze lever or higher within Concept Materials transparency (X07) and Silver level or higher within Materials Optimisation (XO8) Feature.

Test

With the update of the standard to Version 4 (V4.0) more rigorous requirements have been added to the C2C MH standard. Eastman is using the transition period (until December 2024) to assess what is needed to carry out the renewal of its certification under version 4.
